Discuss location sharing in relationships as a specific choice: what would be shared, with whom, for what purpose and for how long? Agree on the actual arrangement before using it. “During this journey” and “all the time” are different requests; neither should be assumed from the other.
Start with your own comfort
Love is respect’s digital boundaries guidance encourages people to identify their comfort, discuss terms and revisit them when needs change. The location-sharing example below is our application of that general guidance, not a tracking procedure from the source.
Ask whether you want this particular arrangement. “I have not decided” differs from yes. You can discuss an alternative, such as a message after arriving, without agreeing to location access.
An example for one journey
Imagine one partner is travelling to a late event. An original request could be: “Would you like to share your location during the journey, until you arrive? A text when you get there would also work for me.”
A possible response is: “I prefer to send a message when I arrive. I do not want to enable location sharing.” Another is: “I am comfortable sharing for this trip, then ending it.”
The example makes the request and answer explicit. It is not a claim that any app provides reliable protection or that partners must offer either option.
Name the limits
Discuss the intended start and end, who would see the location and whether it would remain available on another device. Before agreeing, check the settings of the app you intend to use.
Do not turn a temporary arrangement into an unstated standing expectation. If you want a different arrangement later, ask about that change rather than treating an earlier yes as permission for every occasion.
When you want to revisit it
You could say: “I agreed to this before, but I want to stop sharing. I am telling you so the change is clear.” If you prefer another form of contact, name it without promising more than you want to provide.
Location information does not establish the meaning of a relationship or another person’s intentions. Neither does a tarot spread. For a different access question, read Phone Privacy in Relationships.
Optional personal reflection
For a symbolic perspective on this connection, you can choose a Signature Video Reading with a custom question such as “What might I reflect on about changing expectations in this connection?” Koko personally records the reading, starting at $99 for 15+ minutes. Standard delivery is 7–10 days; 24-hour Express adds $49. A reading is for entertainment and reflection. It cannot establish another person’s thoughts, secure agreement or replace a conversation.
