LOVE, A LITTLE CLEARER.

How Often Should Couples Text?

Discuss how often to text without inventing a perfect daily count. Use sample agreements for busy hours, planning messages and check-ins.

How often should couples text? Choose an arrangement you both want instead of using a message count as a score for the relationship. Discuss ordinary check-ins, replies during busy hours and time-sensitive plans separately. “I like a message after work” is a clearer request than expecting someone to infer the frequency you want.

Ask about the pattern you want

The digital boundaries guide from love is respect asks partners to discuss their expectations for communication through texting or social media. Use that as a starting point for your own agreement.

A sample opener is: “I enjoy hearing from you during the day. What amount of texting do you actually enjoy, and when is it difficult to reply?” This asks about a preference without prescribing a universal daily number.

Separate conversation from coordination

A message about tonight’s meeting place has a different purpose from a photo sent for fun. You could discuss both: “For plans that affect the same day, can we agree how to confirm? For other messages, I am happy to catch up after work.”

Do not turn this example into a rule that requires immediate access to someone. Replace its details with the arrangement you each want.

Make it about your love life.

A sample agreement to discuss

Imagine agreeing that casual messages need no reply during a work shift, while a short evening conversation is welcome when both people are free. Write that as a tentative agreement, then ask whether you understood it correctly.

You might ask: “When you said evenings, did you mean every evening or when we have something to share?” The answer can prevent you from treating different interpretations as the same promise.

When the arrangement stops fitting

You could say: “The pattern we discussed no longer works with my schedule. Can we revisit it?” Explain what you are asking to change rather than silently testing whether the other person notices.

A late message does not, by itself, establish someone’s feelings. Tarot cannot turn it into proof. For a different digital boundary, read Phone Privacy in Relationships.

A personal question for reflection

If you want a symbolic perspective on this person-linked connection, a Signature Video Reading lets you ask a custom question such as “What expectations am I bringing to communication with this person?” Koko personally records the reading. It starts at $99 for 15+ minutes, with standard delivery in 7–10 days. Optional 24-hour Express adds $49.
