To ask for more communication, explain what you are missing and suggest one specific change. “Could we arrange a short call this week?” is clearer than leaving “communicate more” undefined. Ask what is realistic for the other person too. You can state your preference without requiring constant contact or assuming that a different texting habit proves a lack of interest.

Identify the kind of communication you mean

You might want more frequent contact, clearer updates when plans change or more attention during a conversation. Choose the part that is actually missing for you.

For example, a person who sends plenty of messages may still leave plans unconfirmed. Asking for more messages would not necessarily address that concern. Your request could instead be: “Can we confirm the day before we are meant to meet?”

Ask directly and leave room for an answer

One Love’s communication guide recommends open-ended questions and asking rather than expecting a partner to read your mind. You can combine a specific request with an invitation to discuss it.

Try: “I would enjoy a call between our dates. How would that fit your week?” This gives the person something concrete to consider. It does not assume that the same schedule suits both of you.

Make it about your love life.

Distinguish a request from a monitoring rule

You can ask for a check-in without requiring a report of every activity. If the concern is a changed plan, keep the request about the plan. If it is wanting a longer conversation, say that.

An optional agreement might be one scheduled call or a message when an arrangement changes. Discuss what happens when either person is unavailable. Avoid promising a response routine you already know you cannot maintain yourself.

Decide whether the proposed arrangement suits you

The answer may be an alternative, a yes or a no. You can consider whether the level of contact being offered is a relationship you want to participate in. A clear request does not obligate someone to share your preference.

Explore your question in a personal reading

For a symbolic perspective on your connection with this person, you can ask a custom question in a Signature Video Reading: “What kind of communication am I asking this person for, and what would work for me?” Koko personally records the reading, starting at $99 for 15+ minutes. Standard delivery is 7–10 days; optional 24-hour Express adds $49.
