A tarot significator card is designated to represent the person receiving the reading or their current situation. Grimoire’s significator guide describes selecting one beforehand or identifying it within a laid spread. It is an optional technique, not a requirement for every tarot reading. Our suggested use is a flexible point of reflection rather than a permanent identity label.
Understand the representative role
Grimoire’s explanation of significators describes a card serving as a focus for the person or situation. Some readers select it before shuffling; others recognize a representative card after laying the spread. Many do not use one.
If you are learning, write “chosen representative card” beside it in your notes. Our recommendation is to distinguish that deliberate choice from a card drawn into a position. That simple label preserves what you actually did.
Choose a symbol without fixing a person’s identity
For our original optional exercise, choose a card whose image gives you a useful question. You might look at the Hermit and ask what thoughtful space means to you right now. That does not make you permanently withdrawn or prescribe how you must behave.
Read our Hermit interpretation for that card’s symbolism. Our court-card guide offers another place to explore representative qualities. Do not use this exercise to impose a gender, appearance or personality verdict on yourself or someone else.
Record the method you actually used
Our practice template has three lines: “I selected this card because…” “The image made me consider…” “My question about this situation is…” Complete the lines before consulting another interpretation. You can disagree with your first choice and explain why.
If you set a card aside, record that too. When you later revisit the notes, you should be able to tell what was selected and what was drawn. The exercise is for reflection, not for proving a hidden identity.
Do you need one when ordering a reading?
A significator is not a universal requirement, as Grimoire’s significator explanation notes. Read the instructions for the specific service instead of assuming you need to supply one. Love by Koko’s current reading options explain the formats and questions available.
You can prepare a clear person-linked question without mastering every tarot technique. If the representative-card exercise helps you describe your own concern, use that wording in your notes; it does not need to become a demand that a reader use a particular card.
Explore your question in a personal reading
For a symbolic perspective on your connection with this person, you can ask a custom question in a Signature Video Reading: “What could I reflect on about the role I am taking in my connection with this person?” Koko personally records the reading, with a starting price of $99 and starting length of 15 minutes. Standard delivery is 7–10 days; optional 24-hour Express adds $49.
Read our guide to choosing a love reading. Readings are for entertainment and reflection. They do not establish another person’s thoughts or promise an outcome.
